was so excited about the IT industry, I decided to go straight into vocational training rather than go to high school. After three years of training, I got a job at an Apple company, where I learned to plan and carry out complex IT projects. In Germany, every man has to carry out a year of civilian service, so I had to take a break in my business career. I used the time to get my high school diploma, studying at nights and on the weekend. In the second year of my high school studies I went back to work. I realized, however, pretty quickly, that a broad technical and humanities education would make life enormously more interesting, and decided to quit my job and begin studying for a degree in Business Informatics at the University of Essen, Germany. To help pay for my expenses, I helped companies, on the side, to optimize their IT and implement new software systems.
